Softball Score Sheet Template (Free Printable PDF)
October 17, 2026

Softball games are seven innings, the lineup can carry a designated player and a flex, and in slow-pitch there is a tenth fielder — none of which the generic baseball sheet in the glove bag accounts for. This printable does. Page 1 is a real scorebook page with a diamond for every at-bat, seven innings, a box score and a pitching line. Page 2 is a simple one-team sheet with the position numbers and symbols printed on it, so the parent who got handed the clipboard can keep it without a lesson. Print one of each per game.
Which page do you need?
| Page | Best for | Who keeps it |
|---|---|---|
| Scorebook page (page 1) | The official book: every at-bat on a diamond, outs, runs, hits, the pitching line | The team's book-keeper, or any parent who reads page 2 first |
| Simple sheet (page 2) | Your dugout: batting order, what each kid did each inning, runs by inning for both teams | Any parent, no instructions, from the bleachers |
Softball's position numbers
Same as baseball for the first nine — 1 pitcher, 2 catcher, 3 first, 4 second, 5 third, 6 shortstop, 7 left, 8 center, 9 right — and in slow-pitch the fourth outfielder or short fielder is 10. A ground ball to the shortstop thrown to first is 6-3; a fly ball to the short fielder is F10. Fastpitch teams can ignore the 10 and the sheet still works.
DP and FLEX on the score sheet
If your lineup uses a designated player, the DP bats and the FLEX plays defense in the same lineup spot. On page 1, write both names in that row — DP on top, FLEX underneath — and score the DP's at-bats in the row. If the FLEX comes in to bat, draw a line across the row at that inning and keep scoring in the same row: the row is the lineup spot, not the person. That one habit prevents the most common softball scorebook mess, which is losing track of who is legally in the game after a re-entry.
How to score an at-bat
| What happened | What to write | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Single / double / triple / home run | 1B, 2B, 3B, HR under the line to the base reached | Extend the line as the runner moves; fill the diamond on a run |
| Walk or hit by pitch | BB or HBP | Line to first |
| Strikeout | K (swinging) or K-L (looking) | Mark the out number |
| Fly out / ground out | F8, 6-3, 4-3, 5-3 | Mark the out number |
| Error | E5, E6 | Line to the base reached; not a hit |
| Sacrifice bunt / sacrifice fly | SAC / SF | Out number; no at-bat charged |
| End of inning | A slash in the corner of the last box | Next inning, next column |
The pitching line
Softball pitchers throw more innings than baseball pitchers and most youth softball leagues limit innings rather than pitches, so the IP column is the one to keep carefully: a third of an inning per out, written as 3.1 or 3.2. Walks and strikeouts tell you how the pitcher's day actually went when the score doesn't.
Score it live instead
The sheet is for the book. My-Team Sports is for everyone who isn't at the field. The live Scorekeeper runs from your phone one at-bat at a time — single, walk, strikeout, groundout, with a tap on the field for where the ball went — and parents who open your team's site see the score, the inning and who is up as it happens. Every at-bat rolls into the Stats tab, so AB, R, H, HR, RBI and batting average add up over the season by themselves.

Frequently asked questions
How do you keep score in softball?
The same way as baseball: each box is one batter in one inning, draw the line to the base reached and write how (1B, BB, E6), extend the line as the runner advances, fill the diamond on a run, and write the play and out number on an out (K, 6-3, F8). Softball adds a tenth fielder in slow-pitch and the DP/FLEX lineup rule.
What is position 10 in softball?
The short fielder or fourth outfielder in slow-pitch softball. A fly ball caught there is F10. Fastpitch plays nine fielders, so the 10 is simply unused.
How do you score the DP and FLEX?
They share one lineup spot. Write both names in that row, score the DP's at-bats there, and if the FLEX comes in to bat keep scoring in the same row from that inning on. The row belongs to the lineup spot, not the player.
How many innings does the sheet have?
Seven, the standard for fastpitch, slow-pitch and high school. For extra innings use page 2 as an overflow or print a second copy.
Is this different from the baseball score sheet?
The grid is the same. The softball version adds the tenth position, the DP/FLEX note, and the innings-pitched emphasis on the pitching line. Use whichever matches the game you are scoring.
