Every volleyball lineup is really one decision: the serve order. Get those six numbers right and the rotation, the front row, and the matchups all follow from it. This free printable gives you one clean card per set — serve order 1 through 6, each player's starting zone, and a dedicated libero row — so the lineup you hand the scorekeeper is the one you actually planned.

What is on the sheet

Five set cards (three on page one, two on page two — enough for a full five-set match), each with serve order slots 1–6, jersey number and name columns, a starting-zone column, a libero row, and a substitutes line. Page two adds a rotation reminder box with the overlap basics, because the fastest way to lose a point in youth volleyball is a rotation fault nobody caught until the whistle.

Setting the serve order

Three rules cover most teams. Put your best server in slot one — she may serve five or six in a row while everyone else is still nervous. Split your two strongest hitters so one is always front row. And put your setter where your system expects her: in a 5-1 the setter's slot decides every rotation that follows, so pick it first and build around it. Write the zones in before you arrive; the card is the plan, warmups are for volleyball.

Do not forget the libero rules

The libero doesn't appear in the serve order — she replaces back-row players (usually the middles) without a formal substitution. That trips up new scorekeepers constantly, which is why the card gives her a separate labeled row instead of a slot in the six. Write who she replaces, hand the card over, and the score table has no questions to ask.

From paper card to live lineup

The paper card runs the bench; the season runs better online. With My-Team Sports your roster, schedule, and lineups live on one team site parents open like an app — and the live scorekeeper tracks sets point by point from your phone while the AI assistant coach plans your next practice. Print the card, clip it to the bench, and let the site handle everything else.

Frequently asked questions

How do you fill out a volleyball lineup sheet?

List your six starters in serve order — slot one serves first — with each player's jersey number and starting zone. Note your libero separately (she is not part of the serve order) along with who she replaces, and list eligible substitutes at the bottom. Hand a copy to the scorekeeper before each set.

Does the libero go on the volleyball lineup?

The libero is listed on the lineup sheet but not in the serve order. She replaces back-row players — most often the middle blockers — without a formal substitution, so she gets her own row on the card rather than one of the six slots.

What order should volleyball players serve in?

A common shape: best server first, setter placed to fit your system (a 5-1 builds around the setter's slot), and your two strongest hitters split three slots apart so one is always in the front row. Adjust for matchups set by set — that's why the sheet gives you one card per set.
