Volleyball Score Sheet Template (Free Printable PDF)
October 17, 2026

The official volleyball scoresheet is a dense form built for certified scorers, and the flip-chart on the table is one bumped elbow from being wrong. Youth and club matches need something in between: a sheet a parent can keep that still settles arguments. This printable has two pages. Page 1 is for the table: five sets, both teams, a running score to 25 for each (15 for the fifth), two timeout boxes and six substitution boxes per team per set, the starting rotation for every set, and a set-score summary. Page 2 is the simple version for your own bench, with a serving tally per player.
Which page do you need?
| Page | Best for | Who keeps it |
|---|---|---|
| Table sheet (page 1) | Both teams: the running score that settles disputes, timeouts and subs for the ref, rotations for the coach | Whoever is at the table — a parent with a one-minute explanation |
| Simple sheet (page 2) | Your bench: the score of every set, who served, aces and errors | An assistant, an injured player, a parent in the bleachers |
How to keep the running score
Every rally ends in a point under rally scoring, so every rally gets a slash: when a team wins the rally, cross out the next number in that team's row. The last crossed-out number is the score, and nobody adds anything during the set. Sets go to 25 and must be won by two, which is why the strip has room past 25 on page 2; if a set runs long on page 1, keep slashing in the margin and write the final in the summary. The fifth set goes to 15.
Timeouts, substitutions and the rotation
Each team gets two timeouts per set — tick a TO box when one is called, and the coach who knows the other team has none left plays the last three points differently. Substitutions are limited per set in most leagues (twelve under high-school rules, six under USAV for many age groups, so check yours); tick a SUBS box per substitution and say the count out loud when a team gets close. The starting rotation grid is for the coach, not the ref: write the six starters by position (I is right back, the server, around to VI) and the libero for each set, and the question of whether the rotation was right at the start of set three has an answer.
| Situation | What to mark | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Rally won | Slash the next number for that team | Score is always the last slashed number |
| Timeout | Tick a TO box for that team | Two per set; knowing they are gone changes the end of the set |
| Substitution | Tick a SUBS box for that team | Limits are per set; the sixth or twelfth is the last one |
| Set over | Write both scores and tick W for the winner | The summary row shows the match at a glance |
| New set | Fill the starting rotation grid for both teams | Rotation errors are caught before the first serve, not after |
The simple sheet, for the bench
Page 2 keeps only what your own team needs: a running score to 30 for us and them in every set, and a serving table with a box per player per set. Write an A in the box for an ace and an E for a service error when it happens and leave a tally mark for every other serve. At the end of the match the serving table is the honest version of the game: a team that gave away eight points on serve errors did not lose to a better team.
Score it live instead
The sheet is for the table. My-Team Sports is for everyone who isn't in the gym. The live scoreboard runs from your phone a point at a time, set by set, and parents who open your team's site see the score as it happens without an app. Kills, assists, digs, blocks and aces go in the Stats tab after the match and add up over the season. Print the sheet for the table, score it live for the family that couldn't make the drive.

Frequently asked questions
How do you fill out a volleyball score sheet?
Write the starting rotation for both teams before the set. When a team wins a rally, slash the next number in that team's running score. Tick a TO box per timeout and a SUBS box per substitution. When the set ends, write both scores in the summary and tick the winner. Start the next set on the next block.
What is a running score in volleyball?
A row of numbers 1 to 25 for each team. Every rally won crosses out the next number, so the last crossed-out number is always the score. It means nobody has to add during the set and the sheet beats the flip-chart when they disagree.
How many points is a volleyball set?
Sets one through four go to 25, win by two. A deciding fifth set goes to 15, win by two. Some youth leagues play best-of-three with a 15-point third set; the sheet works the same way.
How many substitutions are allowed per set?
It depends on the rulebook: twelve per set under NFHS high-school rules, and six per set under USAV rules for many age groups (some divisions allow more). Check your league and use the SUBS boxes to count.
Can a parent keep this score sheet?
Yes. Page 2 needs one instruction: slash a number when we win the rally. Page 1 takes about a minute to explain and is the one to use at the table.
