A 90-Minute Youth Baseball Practice Plan (Free Template)

July 6, 2026

The difference between a practice that develops players and one that just burns 90 minutes is structure. When kids rotate through short, focused stations, they get more reps, stay engaged, and spend less time standing in line waiting for a turn. Here is a simple, repeatable plan you can run every week.

Before you start

Show up with a plan written on an index card or your phone, and recruit one or two parent helpers to run stations. With helpers you can split the team into small groups and triple the number of reps each kid gets.

The 90-minute plan

  1. Warm-up and dynamic stretch (10 min): light jog, arm circles, high knees, and a few short sprints. Loose bodies throw harder and get hurt less.
  2. Throwing progression (10 min): partners start close and step back after every five clean throws. Emphasize footwork and hitting a target, not raw velocity.
  3. Fundamental stations (30 min): split into three groups and rotate every 10 minutes — fielding ground balls, catching fly balls, and hitting off a tee or soft toss.
  4. Team defense (20 min): walk through situations at game speed — who covers which base, where the throw goes, and who backs up the play.
  5. Situational scrimmage (15 min): runners on base, live at-bats, real decisions. This is where practice starts to look like a game.
  6. Wrap-up (5 min): one thing the team did well, one thing to work on, and a reminder of the next game or practice time.

Coaching tips that make it stick

  • Give one cue at a time. Kids can fix one thing, not five.
  • Reps beat lectures. If a group is standing and listening for more than a minute, shorten it.
  • End on something fun and competitive — a relay, a home-run derby, or a fielding challenge.
  • Jot down who struggled with what, so next week's plan targets it.

Track it so it compounds

Practice pays off fastest when you can see progress. Logging simple stats and notes across a season shows which players are trending up and where the team keeps breaking down. If you run your team on My-Team Sports, the roster, schedule, and stats live in one place — and the AI practice planner can generate a fresh plan for any sport in seconds.
